In the magical world weird things happen everyday. A duck made out of flowers flys by. A potion which can make the unhealthy vanish into thin air. A group of villagers capable of turning whatever they touch to gold.
By and large these things are SO outrageous and occur SO often... that they have become the norm. And how do all these wondrous things come about you ask? Well that question is very simple my dear. Wondrous PEOPLE make these things happen.
As a matter of fact if you walked up to five people in the magical world and asked them if they had some extraordinary ability or talent, four of them would show it to you and the fifth would lie and then vanish in a puff of smoke. However among all the various talents of people in the magical world, telepathy, curses, the ability to break steal with your bare hands, there is none more rare than the ability of teleportation.
To be able to go anywhere at anytime is an ideal situation and many mages never master the spells in their lifetimes.... this may also have to do with the high fatality rates of mages who attempt this process.
Still, teleporting, if not done by a professional can be a rather harrowing experience. And to actually FIND a professional may be even worse. Thus, people who specialize in making portals and who can create devices which take a person from one place to the other are in high demand.
It is because of the value of such individuals that a group of villagers from the old world had brokered a deal with a group of organized criminals to sell a very unique girl with the natural ability to teleport.
This particular group had decided that they required a few extra hands for this job. Handling a teleporter, particularly one who could do so spontaniously was a tricky buisness. As such, Mortimer had been hired for this particular assignment. He had managed to get in to this group after he managed to thrash one of their snitches. And it was on this mission that he was expected to fully demonstrate his worth to the group. Problem was Mortimer had other plans for the natural-teleporter. Plans which the family may not have liked.
Still, now wasn't the time to move. The group hired to take the girl once she got out of the gate-port pad was to persuade her to come with them voluntarily. If that didn't work... well each of them could probably take care of the girl on his own, with or without her powers. There were six in all, counting Mortimer, and each was disguised as a normal civilian. One was over in the foodcourt, the other pretending to wait for baggage, the third hid in the ventilation ducts, the fifth was holding a sign with the name "Chloe" written on it. And the sixth, Mortimer was sitting in the parking lot pretending to be a cab driver. He was the farthest away from the girl and had the least opportunity to actually get too her before anyone else. Still, he was waiting for one of them to come outside holding the girl, at which point he would innoculate the man and drive off with her himself.
Granted most notions of chivalry were sacrificed in this plan but Mortimer felt it was the best he could come up with given his role. Looking down at his watch, Mortimer checked the time...11:03. Still two minutes before she would arrive. Starting the car, Mortimer would drive towards the exit of the gate-port and begin his wait.
