| Subject: New Magic System? Tue Mar 01, 2011 10:26 pm | |
| Since there is going to be some changes to the magic system might I suggest changing some other things about it.
I've noticed for the most part the newer members (and some of the older) either put an abundance of points into intelligence or not much at all.
I'd like it so it's more balanced. Having some of the more physical characters still continue to focus on melee without relying TOO MUCH on intelligence and allows the spell caster types to still get ahead in magic and still be able to put points into the other stats without threatening the lead in magic.
I suggest having the rank your character is in rely into relation with what spells one has. Here's a table of the proposed ranking and such.
D-Rank: You’re someone almost no one knows, a beginner mage. Everyone starts out like this. You can only do low rank missions and not join any groups or make pactios with someone as of yet. You’re not very trusted to do work, but if they’re in a pinch, you’ll be hired. Requires you to post missions in the mission request board to give you a few starter missions to attain Rank C. Starts off being able to manage 3 rank 5 spells and an unlimited amount of rank 4 or lower spells.
Lower Tier C-Rank: Amassing 50 Stat points overall you've have gotten your feet wet into the world of Negima. When dubbed good enough you'll be able to start missions with friends or by yourself. You need 50 SP at the least to become a C-Rank magician. People will recognize you for doing something out of the ordinary and they do trust you to keep up during missions, however you’re definitely not first on their list and failure is still a threat with you. Able to manage 2 rank 6 spells 4 rank 5 spells and an unlimited amount of rank 4 and lower spells
Higher Tier C- Rank: Amassing 75 stat points overall your starting to get pretty good. Failure in missions is getting less common and you've had a bit of experience around your belt. Able to join/make missions that have 4 or more people involved and start buying some notable (character profile worthy) weaponry, a few fodder worthy npc's and specialty items (ships, basic enchants that don't require rank, things like brooms and special pills). People see you as a viable canidate for going out for missions. Able to manage 3 rank 6 spells and an unlimited amount of rank 5 and lower spells.
Lower B-Rank: People of high caliber who have a requirement of 100 SP to become this rank. You’ve become renown throughout the magic world; most people recognize you and a lot of people trust you with jobs. After getting 100 SP, you have to destroy a troubling organization or group of people in any given territory. By now your allowed 2 pactios that have differing characteristics. Able to manage 1 Rank 7 spells and 5 rank 6 spells, unlimited rank 5 and lower techniques.
Higher Tier B-rank: Individuals that are now renowned in their home region requiring 150 SP overall. Being well known and popular/feared getting inside some of the higher up societies and shops. This allows the buying of some higher grade weaponry, summonable mercenaries (can be PC's), and some specialty items (Warships or top of the line enchantments for example) 3 Rank 7 spells are available to him and an unlimited amount of rank 6's or lower.
Lower Tier A-Rank: Magicians that are near the top of the list, they’re strong, knowledgeable and can participate in almost any mission with successful results. They need an SP total of 200 or more and have gotten two artifact/partners. You’re so well known your name spreads to some notable mages. Sometimes opposite sided mages when they spot you, they want to kill you. You’re considered a huge threat to opposite sided mages and a hero to ones on your side. 2 rank 8 spells are in your repertoire and 5 rank 7 spells unlimited rank 6 moves and lower.
Higher Tier A-Rank: Magicians that would probably be involved with his/her region's leaders or politics, your name and image is known to every mage in the magic world. You have 250 SP and are have an organization that is under your control. Also to add to this you've have already defeated your Rival and the corporation or he/she controls, this requiring missions that describe the destruction of said assets in each region. Having access to 3 rank 9 spells and unlimited rank 8 or lower spells.
S-Rank: Magicians that are said to participate in any mission and triumph over it are dubbed this rank. They’re the strongest mages in the universe and had to undergo a harsh trial set out to them. Your name is that of legend living on the annuals of history long before your expiration. Opposite mages now avoid you because of your strength and many often come looking for your power and give you outrageous deals for money… People say it’s the perfect life for a mage. With 300 overall stat points and a seat in the world government (that you could have possibly formed) you've have the world in your control more or less. Able to use 3 rank 10 spells and unlimited rank 9 and lower spells.
The spell ranks relate to if the person has 1 intelligence.
Higher intelligence results in higher ranked moves, increasing the amount available to you and how one defends/attacks with spells.
I'll post that up in a bit.

| My take on what Intelligence could be like and it's advantages.
[1-5] - Naive
Having little to no knowledge of magic or it's workings sets you in a rather ignorant situation. Still able to use magics according to the rank but nothing more. No set advantages.
[6-10] - Apprentice
Though either schooling or use of deductive reasoning your able to understand the basics of most magic. Able to fight exclusively with bolt spells without causing too much of a handicap. At this level your able to have +1 move to the second highest ranked spells available to you. (If there's only one rank add to that instead.)
[11-17] - Novice
Through some minor extensive research your affinity to magic is strengthen opening up the mass world of magic to your eyes. Allowing better management of spell's efficiency so one is drained slightly less. At this rank your able to add +1 to the total rank of the spells your allowed to learn. (So at rank D you can learn lvl 6 spells instead)
[18-23] - Adept
Already having some good magic experience around your belt one's moves are strengthened in both speed and range. It's at this rank you're able to make use of delay spells and instants but not consecutively. Add +1 to the rank of moves all across the board, also allowed to learn 1 extra medium rank spell (for your rank).
[24-29] - Magister
Probably taken a few (and possibly give) classes on magic the functions of magic are starting to make sense to you as your spells are noticeable given a bigger boost through higher efficiency and less preparation. Because of this the drain from magic spells have started to affect you a noticably less. +2 to the maximum ranks across the board. [30-39] - Master
With the now extensive training you've put yourself through in your art the extra knowledge is easily seen in combat situations. Having full use of delays, instants, and variations of moves consistently and without trading power for it the stage reached is that of concrete understanding (Like Negi at the tourney vs his senpai) +3 to the maximum ranks across the board.
Only a small example here. Since everyone (except Dorian and maybe Umi) has 30 int or less.
This can just be an explanation how improving one's intelligence benefits their moves overall, or how casting so many high rank spells doesn't drain people's endurance as much (from what I heard Umi)
Since with battle experience, better moves would normally come from the experience anyways. I believe that a ranking system makes this easier to see.

| No ~
Moreover you're the one that is focusing in physical ability :p
Seriously, the rank system is already working, and is quite good. |

| Precise it's "SP gained" and not SP (because each charac start with 45)
But it's not bad. You seem good at this kind of thing isn't it? |

| The rank idea isn't interesting at all, since the max rank of your spells isn't determining your power or the amount of mission you went on. |

| All my suggestions sorta model themselves off each-other~
The max spell rank is just something Junky wanted, so it sorta reflects things. |

| Made some edits.
P.S. You really don't have to flame someone for wanting to try something different. This is called a suggestion area for a reason. |

| If anything I'd like a change to the ranks.
Them dictating the stuff you can do (e.g. what you can buy, what's open to you, goals etc) |
