As I've been looking through Mangafox, searching for good manga that would be good RP material.. well, I found three that I think would be best.


First off, To Aru Majutsu no Index / To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
Rank 141 and 168 on Mangafox, respectively. Both of these mangas are in the same universe, and follow pretty much the same plot-line. Anyway, the general RP area is limited to a subcity in Tokyo, it is mostly schools and shopping areas but also has warehouses and storage areas. The characters are not limited in technique, both magically and scientifically. Other than the previous 'failure' this manga is the best choice of the three.

Secondly, Gakuen Alice, aka Alice Academy.
Ranked 90th (was 89th when I last checked)
It is similar to Toaru, except the general RP area will be more like Hogwards rather than University City. It is made up of all three levels of school buildings and several dorms, as well as a small town-like area for shopping and enjoyment. There isn't magic, nor is the overall technological level of the overall school above normal. Though, there are technological-based power users, which can easily surpass the norm. The powers are similar to Toaru's, except they are called Alices, and can be transferred through the use of Alice Stones, which are generated by Alice users of considerable control and power. Be warned, the manga itself is shoujo, the main characters are primary schoolers, and most of the combat is brief and/or off-screen. Though, it has high potential for 'our' style of RP.

Last and least, but not worst, Accel World
Ranked 226th, with only 8.5 Chapters
It is a simple battle manga based on online gaming, you have an almost limitless combat system but it should fit the theme of being able to fight in a Street Fighter style game. Though, the RP zones are anywhere in the world, in digitized form. Players can be Level 1 to 10, each Level giving a Skill Point. While each victory gives Burst Points, that are used to 'pause' the real world and be able to make quick pre-planned movements, and higher level players being able to move at extreme speed while in the 'pause' mode but at the cost of many Points. Most players in the manga remain anonymous, but to be able to play, you have to accept an executable file that actually downloads onto a bio-net interface. Think Ghost in the Shell, people are literally plugged-in to the internet. With custom avatars, for normal net-use, Accel-Battles, as well as their real-life form.
I think this manga is a good choice, and I do like the theme for RP purposes.. but, it is less drama and more combat. While, you could make drama through heated debate, since the in-game is ruled by 5 pure color Kings and their factions. They each control an area and battle to take control.

Specifically on the level's 1-10, that's just how far that anyone's ever gotten. Meaning there can be more, and most likely is. But in easy to understand terms, 1-5 like Rank D-B here 6-8 B-A 9-10 A-SSS (god basically)

But anyway, i would go for To Aru Kagaku no Railgun one, cause last time when we rp Toaru, the storyline was base more on the esper technological side, and it was pretty good in my opinion,
i havnt read any of the other 2 mangas, and i didnt like the idea od the accel rp.

I would like to try the To Aru rp again but focus more on the Espers than magicians. I know people would disagree but for the sake of RP I think Espers are somewhat more interesting. After we get the forum more active (if we decide to go To Aru) then Magicians could be added.

As for my opinion on the other choices, I'm not familiar with them but Gakuen Alice sounds interesting. Though I'm not too fond of Accel World for RP.

I guess, just adding my opinion to the mix. It just so happened to be similar to yours.

Accel World would has a few more little rules.. like colors and their archtypes.

Blue = Close-Range
Red = Long-Range
Yellow = Indirect Combat

Then we have Orange, Purple, and Green, plus many more. Which are combinations of that and each have their own techniques and styles.

Like if I named my character Mandarin Hawk, which is a shade of orange.. Orange being Yellow & Red, so personally, I would a Sniper Rifle and Landmines for my main weapons. I could also be willing to use one of the Skill Points for something extra, like a teleportation ability or a glider, maybe even something like an invisibility or anti-radar.

Another side-note, combatants in a single-on-single match have a directional arrow pointing toward the opponent.


As for stats.. I think Strength, Agility, Dexterity, Speed, and Endurance will be fine.
You start with 50 Stat Points and 3 Skill Points. Each level-up giving you 10 Stat Points and 1 Skill point.
Stat Points being divided amongst stats, while Skill Points are used for Techniques and Personal Gear, such as weapons and armor.



Low-level combat (1-4) would be done through personal 1 vs. 1 fights. Once you reach level 5, you'd start taking place in group fights, team or free-for-free. At level 7, I guess you would move on to much larger group fights, that instead of just defeating the opponent and taking their Points, you'd also be fighting for territory and reputation, as the leader of a faction. Once you reach level 9, you must defeat six other level 9's to reach level 10..
In 1 vs 1, of equal level, the winner gains 10 Burst Points, the loser loses 10 Burst Points. If the user is a higher level versus a lower level, then the different of win/loss points would be much different.. A level gap increasing the lower level's winning bounty by 10 Burst Points for every difference in level. While the higher level character will only gain the difference in level subtracted from ten.
If a level 1 character fights a level 2, the level 1 would get 20 Burst Point if he/she won. While if the level 2 won, he/she would only get 9 Burst Points. The loser getting the total of the Points subtracted from his/her total.


The total of which starting Burst Points you have is 100.
You spend 1 Burst Point everytime you activate Burst Mode, which slows down time to a crawl and allows users to think and make near superhuman reflex level of movements, but only once they 'unpause' time. While level 9 users of this ability have can activate their accelerated movement while in Burst Mode, but costs about 99% of their Points.
When you run out of Burst Points, then it is Game Over.

That sounds like an interesting GAME, not so much for RP though...

That, and I am too lazy to actually work on this forum unless I can replace 90% of the staff. Though, I know most of them will choose to become active again and QQ to Will about it. Then I'll become a Char mod again, watch this forum slowly die, Umi will come back, call Will bad names, Kyle will agree, then they will both call Will bad names, then call each-other bad names. After that, Umi will say he has a new forum for us.. Kyle won't be invited, and the forum will look like shit on a shit sandwich. Then Umi will show his true colors and prove that anything he tries to do will always fail. Afterwards, we will all come back and repeat this process, except Will will make Kyle admin and he will burn this forum to the ground and then magically make it a success with over 9000 members and 1000 posts a day.


Anyway, I just think this forum can become better.. but no one is really willing to help me, they will all condemn any idea I tell them, then tell me to open a poll and get everyone opinion. Said opinions will be from the same people who condemned my ideas, with newer people condemning my ideas with them.. but that is due to group-think and peer-pressure.
After we get over this hurtle, I will tell everyone that I don't give a damn and I will do my best to make things better. Though, they will call me a tyrant and say some Americanized youth-speak, but that will be in vain. Since I know nothing I will do can actually improve this forum unless we all work together.
As an admin, I can change just about anything on the forum.. just not the members. Will is better at manipulating people than me. Sadly, he pretty much doesn't take too much of a bold statement, thus nothing really gets done.

If only I felt like trying.. but all this kinda sucked that feeling out from me. With a new forum, we can start again and slowly build from nothing. While here, we have to take what we got and try to fix that.. and sometimes, it's just easier to start anew.
